Tools of the Trade

I decided to test out some new tools that I can potentially use in the classroom. I explored Glogster and Prezi. They're both available for students and teachers to use for free* in classroom. Here's a link to my prezi that discusses what I think about these tools. * glogster is only free for education associated accounts

1bookBG Kickoff

My district is currently doing great things for the students! A group of teachers started the 1bookBG program to support collaborative literacy for the district. (aka a BIG book club) Through donations and other funding, the 1bookBG program has provided every elementary student with the book "The World According to Humphrey". Click here to read a little more about the book. The district will be working together to read the book, answer trivia questions and participate in activities throughout the community. We had our kickoff assembly and revealed the title of the book last week. Our first week had us reading chapters 1-4 and ending the week with a "bring your favorite stuffed animal to school" spirit day! Check out more photos and info on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

I love my job! OPP3

It's hard for me to find things I don't like about working with students. They make me laugh, they make me want to cry (some of them have unfortunate circumstances) and they definitely keep me on my toes. It's also hard for me to find things I don't like about my co-workers. I work in a building that is happy, collaborative and caring. For example our librarian (who is amazing BTW) has a daughter who was in a very serious car accident last May. She has been in and out of surgeries, therapies and everything else and still remains in critical condition, unable to speak or walk and needs constant care. The staff rallied together in the beginning, sending cards, flowers, prayers and anything else needed. We continued our support by wearing our #teamErin (her daughter's name is Erin) shirts today to honor her and her fight. The proceeds from the tshirt sales went to the family to help with medical costs. I am so proud to be part of a team that is always working together to make the world a better place!

Graphics Assignment

Hi everyone! I have been exploring some of the online tools out there available for photo editing. One site that I found to be really cool, but not super user friendly, in my opinion, is pixlr.com It is very much for those who know Photoshop and its layering and tools capabilities. But after playing around with it a bit I was able to showcase some of it's features. As you can see I have heavily edited one of these photos. The top one is the one I edited, the bottom one is the original. Pretty cool, huh?!

Students: Please take this survey by September 15!

Inspiration

Here's a Word Cloud to inspire me this year in fourth grade and to help inspire my students.  Thanks to Jason Davies for this software!  I will eventually get my students online to create their own word clouds for the year.

Words to inspire me this school year!
